Since we first fired up our hobs in 2012, we have inspired and upskilled over half a million people to grow, cook and eat more plants – and we’ve only just got started.
ABOUT US
Made In Hackney is the community cookery school building a global plant-based movement. We believe in the transformative power of plant-centered eating to heal both people and the planet.
“A dedicated collective who’ve been teaching their community to put more on veg on their plate for over a decade.”
Jamie Oliver – Celebrity Chef
Our cookery school HQ is located on the beautiful Clapton Commons in Hackney but we deliver sessions in kitchens across London, nationally and online to a global audience.
Our vision
Made In Hackney believes in a world where…
Our mission
To reduce health inequalities, increase access to climate-friendly food and bring communities together using the power of plants.
How do we do this?
We inspire & educate
In our Community Cookery School we inspire people to grow, cook and eat more plants. Our online and in-person classes showcase budget-conscious, nutritious, culturally diverse, planet-friendly food. We offer free community classes; and charged masterclasses and team building sessions.
We strive to do all this with joy, respect and collaboration
Our food culture
To reduce health inequalities, increase access to climate-friendly food and bring communities together using the power of plants.
Our pandemic response
In 2020 we made headlines with our COVID19 response Community Meal service. Within a week of lockdown we launched an emergency food support programme delivering meals to 500 households a day across Hackney. This intervention was planned for three months but we delivered it for three years before evolving it to our current Community Made programme. Watch the video about the Community Meal Service.
