“We are so lucky to have you in the community supporting everyone.”

Deputy Cabinet Member for SEND in Hackney, Anya Sizer

What happens when you turn a familiar local space into a place to eat, share, and celebrate? You get a Community Feast!

Neighbours of all ages come together over good food, stories, and conversation. From parks to community halls and schools, these gatherings transform everyday spaces into welcoming hubs filled with laughter, connection, and the smell of seasonal, nutritious meals.

Older residents, families, neighbours, and local and corporate volunteers sitting side by side, building friendships and support networks. As one participant put it, “It’s not just about food; it’s mentally uplifting too.”

We aim to support 300 older and vulnerable residents in Hackney this year. At a time when one in four older adults experiences loneliness and food insecurity continues to rise, these community gatherings are more important than ever.

Working in partnership with local organisations and volunteers, Community Feasts not only bring people together but also help connect residents to wider support services. Each event also celebrates seasonal, low-waste food that nourishes people while being mindful of the planet.
