Kenneth

Kenneth began his volunteering journey with us in 2023. He started as a cyclist for the community meal service delivering meals to beneficiaries across Hackney, learning new routes and getting to know the area better. When this service ended he switched to being a Class host at our community cookery school and has been enjoying the classes ever since.

“I’ve learnt a great deal about alternatives to the meat oriented dishes I was accustomed to eating and also about healthy eating and basic kitchen skills such as how to cut properly with a knife. Cycling in Hackney to deliver meals helped me to get more familiar with the area.

I’ve most enjoyed meeting a range of people with different perspectives. Whether it be on how to approach a recipe or an activity. There’s been a lot of creative insights into the whole process of how MIH works and of course the lovely community that provides such a positive experience has really helped me with my own personal benefits and experience. I’d say it’s pretty hard not to make new friends here if you get involved.

One of the other great benefits is learning about different cultures attached to food. Activities like foraging was an eye opener, and is something I hope to share more with my friends. I’m definitely more conscious now of my diet with things like gut health and how to budget.”
