Each January, thousands of people take on Veganuary as a chance to pause and think differently about food. Wherever you are on the path toward more plant-centred eating, we’d love to reflect with you on the heart of our work.

In our community cookery classes, vegetables take centre stage as we discover how to unlock their flavour, nutrition and health benefits. Antonia, an older participant, shared:

“I began appreciating ingredients in new ways, while feeling confident knowing I am doing good for my health long term.”

Meals she once overlooked became something she genuinely looked forward to, as she learned with our chefs and nutritionists how plant-based ingredients could help prevent diabetes.

A community course participant shared:

This is the second time I have done this course. It has helped me because my husband is a dialysis patient and eating plant-based food has helped with his health – his heart has also improved.”

Plant-centred food is powerful because it’s inclusive and adaptable across cultures, faiths and dietary needs, helping us build more sustainable habits while honouring what matters most. As Margaret told us:

“Learning healthier Afro-Caribbean cooking allowed me to enjoy our
cultural foods in a new way.”

Not to add that cooking nourishing meals from scratch can also cost up to a third less, helping make good food more accessible.

And, finally, there’s our planet’s health. Every plant-centred meal reduces the strain of industrial animal farming, supports sustainable food systems, and helps protect biodiversity. At a time of increasing instability, rethinking our food systems offers a unique entry point to enhance human wellbeing while supporting planetary stability.

This is what we love about our community kitchen: through the power of plants, ordinary meals can become opportunities to nourish, connect, and protect — for ourselves, each other, and the planet.

If our work resonates with you, now is the perfect moment to support us. As our Crowdfunder enters its final week, your donation directly supports the running of our community kitchen, make nourishing food and education accessible to those who need it most. Together, we can make a bigger difference this Veganuary.

And remember, change doesn’t have to be loud or perfect — sometimes it begins quietly, one plate at time.
