The heartbeat of Made In Hackney is our free to attend, culturally diverse, plant-based community food growing and cookery classes. We deliver these sessions online, in our Hackney HQ Liberty Hall and in community venues – hostels, refuges, youth centres, schools - across London. These life changing classes equip participants with the skills and inspiration to adopt a low-cost, health supporting, planet-friendly diet in a supportive and joyful setting.

We partner with other charities, service providers and grassroots groups to ensure these sessions are delivered to community members who suffer disproportionately from health inequalities, food insecurity and economic injustice. Groups we collaborate with include pensioners, young people, carers, families, migrants, marginalised cultural groups, people with special educational needs and physical and mental health conditions, low income households, housing insecure, people in recovery and job seekers.

We have a banging programme of classes that take place in your kitchen (ok we mean online), in our Hackney HQ Liberty Hall and in guest venues across London.

These sessions are led by highly skilled plant-based chefs who specialise in themes such as Vegan Meatz, Nut Cheeses, Vegan Phish, Fermentation, West African, Middle Eastern, Iranian, Indian, Christmas Dinner and many more.

Celebrity chefs - think Andi Oliver, Sami Tamimi, Bosh!, Anna Jones, Miyoko Schinner and Sandor Katz - even drop by from time to time to deliver a class!

All proceeds raised from these paying classes go towards funding our free community cookery class programme.
