The Event

"Sourdough bread is tasty, hugely beneficial to your health and a joy to make. I’ll show you how to successfully bake your own delicious, nutritious loaves at home.”  Sharon Gardner, self-taught baker and naturopath

This masterclass will include:

  • What is sourdough and how does it work?
  • Health benefits, costs, and how to choose your flour
  • How to create and maintain a sourdough starter
  • Learn how to mix, fold and shape dough
  • How to bake good sourdough bread (including bread using rye flour)
  • Advice on fitting sourdough baking into your schedule
  • A delicious organic plant based lunch, your own starter, recipes and bread to take home 

Sharon is a self-taught baker and has been making her own bread for more than a decade. Her journey into bread making began after she found that she suffered from heartburn and digestive issues after eating shop bought bread. Sharon has a background in Health Sciences and is a practicing Naturopath and Pilates teacher who specialises in plant-based nutrition. She is a lecturer for the College of Naturopathic Medicine and a passionate advocate of holistic health and positive ageing.

We do our utmost to keep you safe at our venue. You will have your own set of equipment at your own socially-distanced workstation with your own hand sanitizer. We take the temperature of all guests on arrival, our staff wear clear masks and visors, and our venue is well ventilated. 

ALLERGEN ALERT 

Made In Hackney uses cereals containing gluten namely: wheat (spelt and khorasan wheat), rye, barley, oats; peanuts; all other nuts; sesame; all other seeds; soybeans; celery and celeriac; mustard; sulphur dioxide/sulphites; lupin; tomatoes and other allergens in it's classes. Our food is freshly prepared in our busy cookery school kitchen that handles allergens, so we cannot guarantee that our food and drinks are allergen-free. Even in classes where these ingredients are not being used, they will be on site in our store rooms and our equipment will have previously come into contact with them. Participants attend at their own risk.
